Ink on paper; Rajput Style, Kota School. 17.5 x 28.8 cm (6 7/8 x 11 5/16 in.). Provenance: Stuart Cary Welch (by 1983 - 2008,) by descent; to his estate (2008-2009,) gift; to Harvard Art Museum. Received 2009. <br>The drawing depicts Rajput hunters, mounted on either elephants or horses. Armed with spears or bows and arrows, they hunt rhinoceros. Some use spears, and others use bows and arrows. The elephant with its trunk around the neck of a rhinoceros in the bottom left corner is a popular motif in Rajasthani, particularly Kota, works.
