Poaching is a serious problem as the Sanctuary is surrounded by villages from all sides and the rhinos stray out of the park for foraging.
1987-1993, 18 out of 29 deaths due to poaching (4 due to electrocution)
18 % of death due to flood, 6 from illness, 2 from fighting. |

The area becomes entirely flooded as water from Brahmaputra and Ualong Rivers pass through the northern and southern boundary. Rhinos go outside sanctuary in search of dry ground. |

Located 50 km east of Guwahati on southern bank of Brahmaputra River, in Morigaon District, Assam. It covers about 16 kmy . The sanctuary occupies a basin-like structure surrounded by the Mayong, Kamarpur and Monoha Hills. |
