1996 Jan. I visited the area. In Manipur, Dicerorhinus sumatrensis is occasionally reported from the Anko Range of Ukhrul District. Villagers of Konkan, about 88 km SE of Ukhrul town, encountered stray individuals as recently as early 1990s. |

In Nagaland, there are two specific records, both from Tuensang district.
In 1967-68, a rhino was reported from Saramati on the lower slopes of this 3836m peak.
In 1994, the Yimchunger Nagas of the Fakim area south of Saramati reported seeing a 'dwarf' rhinoceros. |
