Infrared-thermography (with illustrative colour photos). Infrared-thermography is a new technique in veterinary science. It uses the natural heatwaves which every animal releses. With a special camera these waves can be captured, which is then changed into an electrical signal. This signal in turn is made into an optical picture with the help of a microcomputer. All this happens so quickly, that the observer can analyze this picture immediately and record it on a video-camera. The picture changes according to the temperature of the waves through a clour scheme.
During pregnancy the area of contact between the uterus and the skin of the mother increases. Then local heat-spots can be seen on the stomach. The presence of a baby in the uterus can be detected easily with this method.
