Rhinoceros sondaicus. There are said to be four specimens of the javan rhinoceros existing in the Kahilu Game Sanctuary in the Thaton and Salween Forest Divisions. Indeed, this sanctuary was established mainly for their protection. These specimens are reputed to ascend hills in the manner of the Sumatran rhinoceros and, since they appear never to have been seen by any reliable authority, it is somewhat doubtful whether they are actually Javan rhinoceros or not.
