The circumstances which led to the issue of the special permit to the Mahadevi of Mong Mit were: (1) A physician prescribed the Maha devi to take rhino blood bath; (2) A male Sumatran rhino was shot inside the sanctuary in October 1930 under the direction of the then Local Government for museum purposes.
