White Rhino |
White rhino were among the first species to be reintroduced. In 1991 there were 12 animals on the propert, when an additional 26 were translocated from the nearby Malachite Reserve. 21 of these were moved in one day. There have been no further reintroductions and numbers have fluctuated due to births, deaths etc, and translocations to Madikwe and elsewhere. Sis died during the severe drought of 1992. One was hunted between Jan 1996 and May 1998. In July 1994 there were 40 white rhino at Phinda, and in August 1998 there were 47.
