The principal poacher was arrested in Darrang, a desperate individual, formerly a sepoy in the Assam Rifles, who operated both in the sanctuary and across the river near Kathonibari, to which the Kaziranga rhino sometimes swim. He has been sentenced for a number of offences and his incarceration should make things much easier.
