It may be well to mention that Blanford believed the range of this species to be mainly, if not entirely, restricted to the area east of the Tista River. It has, however, been pointed out in the Supplement to Game Animals of India [Lydekker 1911] that the species is common in parts of the Nepal terai, where it seems to be more abundant than in Kuch Behar and Assam.
