Ceratotherium simum. Although previously confined to the area south of the Black Umfolozi River, it has now extended its range northwards even into the broken and hilly country in the north of Hluhluwe. Range extension southwards has been curtailed by the rection of the southern and western Umfolozi boundary fences. Population increases at 10% per annum. The 1971 census revealed 2002 animals.
