| New York Zoo - Diceros bicornis from Tanzania. Considering the rarity, the price paid was not excessive, yet it can be safely mentioned that no other animal in the collection either exceeds or nearly equals the cost of this specimen. |

| Three of these were kept temporarily before shipping to the Vienna Zoo in 1901. There was one in the gardens as early as 1875. An account of one has already been published in the journal.
In 1878 it was decided to dispose of the larger animals and most were sent to the Calcutta Zoo. |
