Northern White rhinoceros populations declined after Britain, Belgium and France granted independence to range states. By the 1970's few NWR remained due to excessive hunting and poaching for Yemeni horn markets. In 1979 when the Tanzanian Army invaded Uganda all White and Black rhinoceros were exterminated. |
