| Hi, A while back (July 2006) I read that the West African Black Rhino (Diceros Bicornis Longpipes) had become extinct. They were still patroling and looking for tracks back then, to confirm the story. I never heard the end of this. Does anybody know the most recent facts about this? Is the West African Black Rhino really extinct? Thnx, Kim |

| Thanks for the info Cathy. Do you know if there still are rangers out there looking for more tracks? And how long has this species been this vulnerable? |

| Hi, I've heard something similar for the Northern White Rhino. They seem to have vanished from Garamba National Park for some time now. Are there any reports of tracks found in this area or is this species really extinct? Kind regards, JJ |

| When one of Zimbabwe's most experienced trackers went to assist with locating spoor of the West African Black Rhino (March 2006), it was revealed that the local scouts had actually been faking the rhino spoor, and that they had not seen recent spoor in three years. Duncan |

| Hi, I read there was a rhino-expert (I don't remember his name unfortunately) who was convinced that there were still some western blacks alive. He refused to believe they were all gone. He was going to mount an expedition to look for surviving animals. Does anyone know anything about that search for survivors? Also I'd like to know why conservationists didn't try to airlift some western blacks (while they were still around) to safety to build their numbers in a safe environment? they tried to do that with the northern white subspecies but Congo politicians intervened (shame on them!)
