Has anyone had issues with foot problems with Eastern Black rhinos? Ours is having problems with infections and abscesses. One toenail has come off (which in a way seems to have been a good thing) and another was removed during a surgery.

Foot problems have been especially bad in the Indian rhinos kept in zoos. This has been investigated by Friederike von Houwald and full versions of her report (Ph.D. thesis) are available on this website. It would be good to hear about experiences with black and white rhinos.

Is this rhinos feet constantly wet? Sometimes feet and skin issues can be contributed to too much water resulting in detoriation of the foot condition.

The barn is sprayed out everyday but now we're squeeging the floor along with the use of a dehumidifier. So in all the floors are dry, outside she has dirt with the occasional small mud hole due to rain or the such, nothing big. Yes I understand that Indian rhinos do have foot problems, would like to get in contact with keepers or vets who have dealt with Indian foot problems.
